"225th anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown"
Kevin Hershberger, John Pagano and the rest of the LionHeart team will shoot a documentary on the 225th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Yorktown, the weekend of October 20th-22nd. Kevin will produce a DVD of the weekend's events and re-enactment -- DVD to be released sometime in spring 2007.

Kevin R Hershberger just won another award for Directing - Platinum Best of Show, Directing, "No Retreat From Destiny" 2006 Aurora Awards. In the same awards cycle, Kevin's film "No Retreat From Destiny" also won a Platinum Best of Show award for a Historical Documentary.

Kevin Hershberger is directing a new short film in July, on location in Richmond, Virginia titled "The Scarlett Letters." Brand new Short Documentary
to be Produced

Director Kevin Hershberger and LionHeart FilmWorks will be attending the 225th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Green Spring, Va (Williamsburg) event to produce a short documentary to raise awareness for the proposed new battlefield site and to promote historic preservation through the Internet and elsewhere. Additional footage for this documentary will be shot in April and May for completion in the late fall of 2006. A DVD of this project will be made available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to preservation of this important and as yet, forgotten Virginia battlefield. It's official!  As Willem Dafoe once cried... New Showtime/PBS documentary

Director Kevin Hershberger and the LionHeart FilmWorks production team just completed work with L.A.-based Eleventh Day Entertainment and their 3-hour Documentary feature, "For Love of Liberty." 

Kevin is the 2nd Unit/Live Action Director on this epic documentary which tells the amazing true story of American black soldiers, sailors and marines from the Revolution to Iraq. 

The project's been in the works for years and Kevin has been part of the project since 2004.  Kevin has directed on the film for a total of 10 days.  The documentary will air on Showtime/PBS in 2007.

"MYSTIC MOTEL" TO BE SCREENED AT NARO EXPANDED CINEMA in Norfolk, October 2nd!

The Naro is showing a locally produced independent movie, "Forgotten Stars" on October 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at the Naro Expanded Cinema along with "Mystic Motel", a short film by Richmond filmmaker Kevin Hershberger. Forgotten Stars is an independent comedy mockumentary produced in Hampton Roads. The film incorporates stock footage, interviews and clips from the career of ventriloquist Jerry Boyd (Terry Jernigan) and his partner, Delbert Schwartz.

The Premiere of "No Retreat from Destiny" a smashing success!

The Virginia Production Alliance sponsored our afternoon premiere of "No Retreat..." at Richmond, Va's historic Byrd Theater today! More than 340 people attended, and the event was a smashing success for all.

The VPA even sponsored an after party at Legend's Brewery for the cast, crew and friends. Thank you to everyone who attended the screening!

Two more events like this are planned for October (the 16th & 23rd) - more info to follow, so keep checking back.

Short film "Mystic Motel" screening at the Byrd Theater AUGUST 13th

Our short-form film "Mystic Motel" will screen at the historic Byrd Theater in downtown Richmond on Saturday, August 13, 2005 as part of the first annual "Iris Festival of Shorts" Our movie will screen with several other area short films, 1pm - 6pm that day.

We'll post the exact showtime for "Mystic Motel" when the final festival program is set in stone. Please try and attend the event, and promote Indie filmmaker in Richmond.

Tickets to the day-long event are only $5.00, and proceeds will go to benefit the Richond Moving Image Co-Op. Star Amelia Zontini will be at the screening, along with Director Kevin Hershberger.

"No Retreat from Destiny"
Screening: July 2nd at Gettysburg

Director Kevin Hershberger and Editor Jason Parks, alongside Assistant Editor Jacob Pulliam, have been toiling away on "No Retreat From Destiny..." since last November. The past few months have been "crunch time" - literally editing 7 days a week (at least 10 hours a day) on the picture to complete it for this summer.

Over the 22 days of shooting last July-September, more than 85 hours of footage (from a three-camera shoot) was shot and had to be analyzed, logged and loaded into the Avid editing system so it can be turned into a 2 hour movie. This had been a challenging process. By comparison, the Director's first feature, "Wicked Spring," was created from only 25 hours of footage (1 two-camera shoot).

The final film will clock in at two hours. There will be at least 30-40 minutes of original music in the picture. More than three dozen digital effects shots (case shot explosions in the air and trees, additional bullet hits, etc.) are being completed by Voodoo Animation of Roanoke, Virginia for the final film. The CG compositing shots they're creating are amazing!

The final DVD will include the following Special Bonus features: a 30-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, a Director/Historian commentary track, Trailer for the film and from other H.E./LionHeart FilmWorks productions, a one-hour feature on the 2004 Monocacy Re-enactment, a one-hour feature on the 2004 "Bidwell's Attack" re-enactment and animated photo gallery. The Collector's Edition of the DVD will include all of the above, along with a CD of the original motion picture soundtrack, composed and created by David G. Russell.

Daniel O'Leary, a graphic artists from Manhattan (and re-enactor), is designing the poster art, one-sheet and DVD cover for "No Retreat..." The poster is viewable on the main page of this site!.

What's been going on lately? On June 18th, Composer David Russell ("Wicked Spring" "The Grudge" "Chasing Farrah") arrived in Richmond from Los Angeles to review the film with the director, and discuss placement of his original music in the final film. Also that day, Actor Fritz Klein (playing President Abraham Lincoln) drove to Richmond from Philadelphia where he was speaking, to record some additional dialog for the final film.

Sound Designer Billy Britt at Midnight Sound Productions will begin all of the picture's sound work in mid-July. Then follows the completion and inclusion of all of the original music. The final sound mix will occur the first two weeks of August. The final movie and DVD will premier at the August 26-28, 2005 "Summer of '62" re-enactment in Boonsboro, Maryland. Theatrical screenings are planned through the late summer and early fall at: Gettysburg, Hagerstown, Frederick, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Richmond and Roanoke.

The July 2nd screening in Gettysburg will be a chance for everyone who worked on the picture last year, to finally see the fruits of their labor "on the big screen." The producers are asking for feedback from the screening so that they can edit the film to be the best it possibly can be.
