Born in western Pennsylvania, John was raised in the small river town of Bridgewater, twenty miles north of Pittsburgh. From an early age, he has had an interest in movies and was totally convinced it was what he wanted to when, in 1985, Ron Howard chose his hometown as a location for his film, "Gung Ho!"
After several jobs in retail, in 1991 he started working with ESV Teleproductions in St. Clairsville, Ohio, as a videographer and editor of many local commercials and documentaries, including a one our docu-drama entitled, "The Battle of Cloyd's Mountain." Over the years, he has been an extra in several films including "Dances With Wolves," "Night of the Living Dead" and "Gettysburg." During that time, he noticed how background was being treated by some productions and felt he had something to add. In 2001, he served as Reenactor Technical Advisor for "Gods and Generals." Following that project, he was selected by the late Brian Pohanka to help train 1,100 members of the Romanian army for the opening scene in "Cold Mountain."
In recent years, he has partnered with Historical Entertainment, LLC on several projects as an associate producer and even branched out of historical films, working as an assistant director on the independent political thrillers, "Death Without Consent" and "Fatwa" in 2004. In 2005, he was the military coordinator for "Fields of Freedom," coordinated an episode of "The Amazing Race: Family Edition" for CBS Television and was First Assistant Director for the Federal Government's new recruiting campaign for the United States Border Patrol. In October, he again re-teamed with Historical Entertainment on "The Revolution" for the History Channel and Partisan Pictures.
In 2006, Greystone Films produced an 18-minute film entitled "We Fight to Be Free", an introduction piece for the new Mt. Vernon Visitor's Center and John, again, served as a military coordinator. After that project, he worked on "Evan Almighty", the sequel to "Bruce Almighty", "Christmas and the Civil War" for The Discovery Channel, "Red Legged Devils" for C Squared Pictures and "Sherman's March" for JWM Productions and The History Channel. He served as Assistant Director on the previous three projects as well as assistant director for a new set of training films for the United States Customs and Border Protection Service in Brownsville, Texas.
John's past work with Lionheart Filmworks include "No Retreat from Destiny: The Battle That Rescued Washington" as Second Unit Director in 2004 and "For Love of Liberty" as First Assistant Director; Second Unit in November.
John currently resides in Fort Valley, Virginia.
